Weekly News

Week beginning 29th September 2014

Welcome to our weekly news.

The first Half of the term has all but come to an end. It has been a very positive time with the children all settling happily into Little Grange. I am immensely heartened to hear that many of our children would like to come to school at the weekend, there can be no better compliment!

The children have all taken part in a musical making workshop with reception, again this experience has been much enjoyed and it is an opportunity for the children to work together.

We are now planning a cookery workshop to take place on Monday 8th December.

Please find below a summary of the main focused activities that have taken place.

Communication and Language

The focus over the past week has been on encouraging the children to listen to a story and to then discuss and ask questions about the plot.

Literacy

The children have enjoyed listening to Lucy and Tom at the seaside. The children have also used pencils and crayons to write, trace and work on their pencil skills.

The children have used the IWB to learn about flags in different countries.

Expressive Arts and Design

The children have used a range of coloured paints to finger paint fish which have been made into a striking mobile.
The role play areas are always very popular, this term we have an airport café inside and a travel agents in the outdoor area.

Musical making morning

We had a wonderful morning with reception making musical instruments using recycled materials. Plastic containers, cereal boxes, straws and cardboard tubes were used.

Can you work out what we made?

Music workshop Morning

Little Grange had lots of fun this morning with Reception making different musical instruments. They used different materials to make their instruments and some of the instruments they made were shakers, drums, guitars and panpipes. We all joined in singing a song and playing all our new musical instruments and listening to all the different sounds they made!

The children began selecting materials to create their instruments. Can you guess what they planned to make?

Skittle Mania

The children had fun arranging and knocking down skittles! They worked well as a team and it encouraged the children to count how many skittles they knocked down each time as they started to get very competitive!DSCF0881 DSCF0882 DSCF0883 DSCF0884

As part of our focus on Autumn and harvest time we decided to follow the words of our harvest song and find out what it means to paint a picture of autumn.

We ventured out into our garden to see what was happening to the trees and what we could find on the ground.

There were many fallen leaves which the children happily collected and brought inside.

We then decided on the colours of autumn and found paints to match.

The Big Draw!

We were invited to the big draw on Friday morning with Mrs Saynor in her art classroom. We went over in two groups and with the help of year 8 we painted our hands different colours to produce a print. We decorated our hand print which turned into lots of colourful Elmers!!
