Weekly Update 3rd November

 

Week beginning  3rd November 2014

 

Welcome to our weekly news.

 

Second Half of the term has been a very busy one as we prepare for the in school poetry competition next Tuesday and then for our nativity play!

 

Thank you to all those of you who have already brought in your child’s costume.

 

 

An EYFS  cookery workshop will take place on Monday 8th December.

 

Please find below a summary of the main focused activities that have taken place.

 

Communication and Language

 

The focus over the past week has been on encouraging the children to listen to a story and to then discuss and ask questions about the story of Guy Fawkes.

 

Literacy

 

The children have been introduced to a writing area in the nursery which we are hoping will encourage the children to write letters and numbers. We will also have mark making activities on offer every day.

 

I spy table.

 

We have a sound of the week and we encourage the children to bring an item from home to display on our I spy table for the week.

Next week our assessment of the children will take place.

Mathematics

 

In our focused sessions the children have introduced the children to positional language. The children have participated in practical activities which helped them to understand the vocabulary. They have also worked with winter pictures to encourage them to use words such as, between, opposite, behind, above, below.

 

Understanding the World

 

The children been thinking about firework night and the issues of keeping safe in order to enjoy the spectacle.

 

Expressive Arts and Design

 

The children have used a range of coloured paints to create an elephant picture.

 

Personal Social and Emotional Development

 

This week the children have thought about their favourite toy and shared this with the group. We then moved on to think about something that they are good at and again shard this with the group. We then began to realise that some of us liked the same things whilst many of us like a wide range of different things.

 

 

Forest School and Cooking

 

Cooking for this week – star biscuits

 

Forest School- bonfire making .

 

Our topic is for this term is Celebrations.

 

Nativity Play

 

This year the children are to be sheep. Please can you supply a white top and tights or a black top and black tights.

These need to be named and placed in a plastic bag and brought into nursery after Half Term.

 

Appointments

 

Parent and teacher appointments can now be made with your child’s key person.

Please return your completed questionnaire sheets.

All dates are put on the board in the porch way and can of course be found on your term card which you receive at the beginning of each term.

We have been busy bees!

Week beginning 29th September 2014

Welcome to our weekly news.

The weeks are flying by!

The children have all taken part in The Big Draw with Mrs Seymore as part of art week, it was a delight to see how the year 8 children encouraged and supported our children.

The scarecrow work shop has been was an amazing success, so we have now planned a morning musical instrument making workshop for Friday 17th October.

Please find below a summary of the main focused activities that have taken place.

Communication and Language

The focus over the past week has been on encouraging the children to use writing and mark making to write a message on a postcard. This also introduces the children to understanding that marks lead to words and words become sentences which carry meaning.

Literacy

The children have enjoyed listening to a range of fiction and non fiction stories and books..

I spy table.

We have a sound of the week and we encourage the children to bring an item from home to display on our I spy table for the week.

Mathematics

In our focused sessions the children have been introduced to sorting. The focus has been to encourage the children to look for similarities and differences which is a very important skill to acquire.

Understanding the World

The children have continued to build on their knowledge of the world by using the world map mat and non-fiction books to discover where their favourite animals live.

Expressive Arts and Design

The children have used a range of coloured papers to create a beach ball.
The role play areas are always very popular, this term we have an airport café inside and a travel agents in the outdoor area.

Personal Social and Emotional Development

This week the children have continued to focus on emotions, feeling happy and sad and understanding that is important to talk about why things make you feel sad.

Forest School and Cooking

Cooking for this week – Marmalade sandwiches

Forest School-bug hunting and potion making.

Our topic is Holidays.
