Weekly News march 2nd 2015

 

Week Beginning 2nd March 2015

 Welcome to our weekly news.

Please continue to access Tapestry our new on line profile system, thank you for the enthusiastic response to Tapestry.

Please be aware that if your child is part of a group photo any comment you may post will be visible to the parents of the other children.

 Please find below a summary of the main focused activities that have taken place.

 Communication and Language

 The focus this week has been on encouraging the children to use descriptive language to talk about dinosaurs. They have also listened to one another and asked questions.

 

Literacy

 

The children have been using non-fiction books to look at in order to encourage them to use language to describe and ask questions about dinosaurs,

The children are continuing to enjoy listening to a wide range of dinosaur stories.

 

There is a continual focus on correcting pencil grip and using markers to form letters and numbers. Those children moving to Reception are being encouraged to write their names in cursive letters independently.

 

I spy table.

 

We have a sound of the week and we encourage the children to bring an item from home to display on our I spy table for the week.

 

There is now an I spy challenge…… can you write a list of words beginning with our sound of the week?  Who will rise to the challenge this week?

 

This Half Term the sounds will be as follows

Mathematics

In our focused sessions the children have been encouraged to count, sort and record different types of dinosaurs using a bar graph. Some of the children have been able to write their own numerals.

 

 

Understanding the World

 

The children have been discovering what happened to the dinosaurs and why they have become extinct. The use of the IWB and internet have supported their learning.

 

Expressive Arts and Design

 

The children have been selecting their own materials to create their own dinosaur masks.

 

Personal Social and Emotional Development- Jigsaw

 

This week the children have continued on the theme of healthy eating. This week the children have been introduced to the healthy plate. The balance of food types has been explained and the children have created healthy and unhealthy plates to form open discussions.

 

Forest School and Cooking

 

Cooking for this week – Dinosaur crispy cakes

 

Forest School- Monday group enjoyed some dinosaur themed activities and were joined by some excited parents.

 

Wednesday afternoon group also enjoyed some dinosaur themed activities and were again joined by some equally excited parents!

 

Thank you to all the parents who have joined in our sessions, I have had some very positive comments, thank you.

 

Milk Bottles

 

We are collecting the 4 pint milk containers in order to rise to a Mrs Robinson challenge to build an igloo! Please could you wash out and bring in any bottles you may have finished with.

 

 

Wellington boots and forest school clothing

 

Children need boots in school at all times we are out in the grounds and it is very muddy at present. Children cannot be taken to forest school if they have not got their forest school jackets and trousers.

 

Dates for your diary!

Friday 13th March we are going to the year 1 assembly at 8-30am.

Friday 13th March subject to a call out the fire brigade will be visiting nursery with their fire engine!

 

May 22nd Little Grange outing 9am to 3-45pm

 

June 5th Trip to the theatre to see Room on the Broom afternoon performance

 

All dates are put on the board in the porch way and can of course be found on your term card which you receive at the beginning of each term.

Week beginning 24th November 2014

 

Welcome to our weekly news.

 

 

Please find below a summary of the main focused activities that have taken place.

 

Communication and Language

 

The focus over the past week has been on introducing the concept of rhyme through poems and nursery rhymes. The children have been encouraged to think up words that rhyme.

 

Literacy

 

The focus has been on Christmas stories. We have also been encouraging the children to begin to tell stories of their own, thinking about characters, beginnings and endings.

 

I spy table.

 

We have a sound of the week and we encourage the children to bring an item from home to display on our I spy table for the week.

 

This Half Term the sounds will be as follows;

Mathematics

 

In our focused sessions the children have focused on sorting. The children are learning how to discriminate between similar objects and to look for similarities.

 

Understanding the World

 

The children been learning about the 4 seasons through stories and pictures.

 

Expressive Arts and Design

 

The children have been making some lovely Christmas wreaths which are now displayed in the nursery. Please have a look.

 

Personal Social and Emotional Development

 

This week the children have thought about the need for team work in order to make our nativity a success.

 

 

Forest School and Cooking

 

Cooking for this week – pizzas

 

Forest School- water and mud activities the use of ropes to tie things together. One lad learned to tie a reef knot!

 

Our topic is for this term is Celebrations.

 

Nativity Play

 

I hope you are looking forward to watching our play on either Wednesday or Thursday!

 

 

Increase of Sessions

 

All parents should be receiving a letter requesting you to advise me of any changes you may be planning to make either next term or for the summer term by the end of this term.

News update!

Week beginning 22nd September 2014

Welcome to our weekly news.

What a week!

The children have all taken part in a French session with Madame Kennedy as part of Languages week, it was quite amazing how some of the children seemed to learn and recall some of the vocabulary.

The scarecrow work shop has been an amazing success, all the reception and little grange children worked together in 8 groups to make some very individual scarecrows which you can see in the nursery garden and reception outdoor area. Please see our blog for photographs!

Communication and Language

The focus over the past week has been on encouraging the children to talk about passports and why we need to have one to allow us to travel. The children have used pencils to write their names or the make marks on their own passports.

Literacy

The children have enjoyed listening the The Scarecrows Wedding as part of our scarecrow making workshop on Friday. They are also being encouraged to discuss the events in the story of the Gruffalo following our trip to the theatre last week.

The following weeks are as follows;

Mathematics

In our focused sessions the children have been introduced to recording numbers and comparing quantities. The children discussed in their key person groups how they had travelled on their holidays. Unifix cubes were used to denote quantity and then used to draw around to compile a bar graph.

Understanding the World

The children have been learning about the world and we used the IWB to look at the globe spinning. We then located England, the equator, Arctic and Antarctic. We then looked at animal life in the Antarctic and Kenya, we used non fiction books and the IWB.

Expressive Arts and Design

The children have used a range of mediums to make characters from the Gruffalo, they have also been investigating hot and cold colours during their focused sessions.

The role play areas are always very popular, this term we have an airport café inside and a travel agents in the outdoor area.

Personal Social and Emotional Development

This week the children have talked focused on emotions, feeling happy and sad and understanding that is important to talk about why things make you feel sad.

Our Weekly News

Week beginning 2nd June 2014

This term our theme is The Five Senses!
Communication and Language

The children have enjoyed talking about their 5 senses, what can I feel with my hands, see with my eyes, hear with my ears and so on.

Literacy

Once again the children have been using their writing books to practice letter formation, cursive strokes and to write sentences independently. The transition classroom is very popular and a good introduction to Reception.

I Spy Table.

We have a sound of the week and we encourage the children to bring an item from home to display on our I spy table for the week.
Next week our sound focus will be reviewing each child’s sound recognition.

Mathematics

In our focused sessions the children are learning all about quantity using bottles and pompoms! Do ask the children about this activity.

Understanding the World

This week the children have been focusing on hearing by playing a game with some bells. It was great fun trying to locate where the bells were ringing and who had them!

Expressive Arts and Design

The children have been creating collages using a range of materials such as soap flakes, porridge, sand, pasta, wool, sequins, sawdust and sugar. The children have been encouraged to think about the textures, sounds and smells as they created their collage.

The role play areas are always very popular; this term we have a rainforest in the outdoor area and a hairdressers indoors.

Personal Social and Emotional Development

Our weekly focus is on meditation,
.

This week we have spoken to the children about using kind words to our friends and being aware of our actions towards others.

Forest School and Cooking

Forest school sessions will be run on alternate Thursday afternoons and a Friday morning to accommodate all the children in Little Grange. As previously the children will attend Forest School one week and then cook the following week. Please ensure that the children have adequate clothing and wellington boots are compulsory for their Forest School sessions.

Cooking – lemon tarts

Forest School- investigation the stream, collecting water using buckets and ropes, mixing clay with mud and water.

Reception taster Sessions

These commence next Tuesday, we will take the children to Receptions classrooms please collect your child at 4pm from Reception.
After School care children will be brought over to the nursery.

The children’s learning home /school packs will be sent home as usual.
